GAME 1: The Godzillas strike first with a 2nd inning Kiner-Falefa 2-run HR. Gotham adds two more runs on a Harper sac fly and a Butler RBI double. Going into the bottom 7th training 4-1, Bailey leads off with a double followed by a Turang walk. Kiner-Falefa went 4-4 for the Godzillas. WP: Uceta, LP: Scott, SV: Clase
GAME 2: Gotham jumps out to a fast start in the 1st inning scoring 4 runs on a Butler RBI single and Rooker 3-run HR. De La Cruz cuts the lead in half with a 2-out 2-run double in the 3rd. The Bulldogs tack on another run in the next inning on a Trout solo HR. The score stays that way until the 8th where Gotham adds an insurance run on a RBI single by Butler (his 4th RBI of the game). Megill closes out the game to give Gotham a 5-3 win. WP: Peterson, LP: Ranger Suarez, SV: Megill. Series tied 1-1.
GAME 3: Once again Gotham jumps out to an early lead scoring 6 runs in the 2nd inning knocking Joe Ryan out of the game. The big blow was a Butler 3-run HR. The Bulldogs chipped away but could only manage 3 runs off Logan Webb in 8.1 innings. Mercerville threatened in the 9th, but Megill came in to get the final two outs for a 7-3 Gotham win. WP: Webb, LP: Ryan, SV: Megill. Gotham takes a 2-1 series lead.
GAME 4: Mercerville takes a 1-0 lead in the 3rd on a 2-out RBI single by Muncy. In the 4th, Gotham takes a 3-1 lead on 3 consecutive RBI singles by Rodgers, Chapman, and Kiner-Falefa. Mercerville makes it a 3-2 game in the 5th on a Ramirez 2-out RBI single. Both teams went scoreless the rest of the way giving Gotham a 3-2 win. WP: Manaea, LP: Yamamoto, SV: Puk. Gotham takes a commanding 3-1 series lead.
GAME 5: This was a scoreless game until the 5th, when Muncy lead off with a HR. Gotham countered with 2 runs in the bottom half of the inning with a Harper 2-run HR. The Bulldogs regained the lead with 4 runs in the 6th on a Ramirez 2-run HR and a Bailey 2-run single. Mercerville's bullpen holds on to that lead for a 6-3 win. This though was a very costly win because Wheeler was injured in the 4th inning and is out for 7 days (the next time he can pitch would be game 4 of the finals). WP: Robert Suarez, LP: Blanco, SV: Clase. Gotham leads series 3-2.
GAME 6: Ramirez gives the Bulldogs a quick lead with a 3-run HR in the 1st. Mercerville adds another run in the 2nd on a Edwards RBI double and 2 more in the 5th on a Muncy 2-run HR. Ranger Suarez was masterful in the first five innings holding Gotham scoreless with 10 strikeouts. He started tiring in the 6th inning giving up a 3-run HR to Teoscar Hernandez. The Bulldogs went to the bullpen and kept the Godzillas scoreless the rest of the way for a 7-3 win and forced a game 7. WP: Ranger Suarez, LP: Peterson. Series tied 3-3.
GAME 7 Mercerville strikes first scoring 2 runs in the 1st inning on a Abreu RBI triple and Ramirez sac fly. Gotham ties it up in the next inning on a Chapman 2-run single. Gotham takes the lead in the 3rd on a Butler solo HR. The score stays that way until the 6th when Ramirez ties the game with a solo HR. In the bottom 8th, Abreu gets on base with a single. Ramirez follows with his 2nd HR of the game to give the Bulldogs a 5-3 lead. Clase shuts the Godzillas down in the 9th for the win. WP: Uceta, LP: Vesia, SV: Clase. Mercerville wins the series 4-3.
Series MVP: Jose Ramirez (12 for 28, 3 2B, 4 HR, 6 R, 13 RBI, 2 SB)
Interesting Note: One name you did not see in the writeup was Ohtani. The Bulldogs not only held Ohtani homerless in this series, but he did not have a single RBI in the series. Unbelievable. He came up with runners on base numerous times and could not deliver the big hit.
Kiner-Falefa was a pest in this series hitting .423 in the series with 4 runs and 5 RBI and was a big part of Godzillas 3 wins.
Mercerville advances to the finals to play the Manchester Mayhem.
Great job by Bruce and Ed for taking over for the AWOL Gotham manager and leading them to the playoffs and getting the games finished in record time!
12/6/2025 - MC: Semifinal series
In a matchup of the #2 and #3 seeds, Bob of Lansdale made the trip to Manchester to face the Mayhem. The Landsharks brought the best starting rotation in the JCL to face the upstart Mayhem.
Game 1: Tarik Skubal vs. Logan Gilbert. Lansdale scored first in the top of the 5th on a solo HR by Mark Vientos. Manchester answered back when Yordan Alvarez blasted a solo shot to even the game at 1-1 in the 6th. Skubal and Gilbert both brought their A games as it remained tied and went to extra innings. With 2 outs in the bottom of the 10th, Will Smith took Skubal deep for a walk off 2-1 win. Skubal took a tough loss going 9 2/3 allowing just 3 hits and struck out 12. But Logan Gilbert was even better as he went the distance with 10 IP allowing 2 hits and striking out 11. Lansdale finished with no runners left on base.
Game 2: Reynaldo Lopez vs. Blake Snell. Another pitcher's duel. Manchester struck first when Jordan Westburg and Francisco Lindor went back to back for homers and a 2-0 lead in the 3rd inning. Snell got shaky in the 6th and was taken out with 2 outs and the bases loaded after hitting a batter and walking 2. Justin Martinez ended the threat and the bullpen shut down the Landsharks offense for the 2-0 victory. The two teams have now combined for 5 runs in 2 games. All solo home runs.
Game 3: Zach Eflin vs. Paul Skenes. The series moves to Lansdale. But not much changes. The Mayhem scratch out two runs against Skenes on a sac fly by Lars Nootbar in the 3rd and an RBI groundout by Anthony Santander in the 6th. Vladimir Guerrero doubles twice off Eflin, but is stranded both times as they are shutout again 2-0. Eflin gets the complete game shutout and allows just 3 hits and 1 walk.
Game 4: Bowden Francis vs. Seth Lugo. Manchester puts up a picket fence first 3 innings by scoring a run in each frame. Happ singles in Nootbar in the 1st. Westburg homers in the 2nd. And Happ doubles in Nootbar in the 3rd. In the bottom of the 3rd, Gunnar Henderson singles in Nick Castellanos to make it 3-1 Mayhem. It stays that score until the top of the 8th when Westburg doubles in Spencer Steer and Brandon Nimmo to make it 5-1. Francis scattered five hits over 5 innings and then the bullpen shut the door with 4 hitless innings to complete the sweep for Manchester.
Jordan Westburg was the offensive star as he had 5 hits with a double, two HRs, and 4 RBI in the low scoring series. Mayhem hit just .178, but Lansdale batted .098 and was outscored 11-2. Manchester pitching had a 0.49 ERA allowing just 12 hits in 37 innings and striking out 38 while walking just 4.
Lansdale simply didn't hit, but they are the early favorites for next season with 3 of the top pitchers in the JCL. Post series we opened a few wax packs of 1988 and 1990 Topps. Bob did score a nice 1988 Mike Schmidt.
Always a pleasure seeing Bob and playing a series while talking baseball!
